Shipping companies continue their work with CO2-reductions

To obtain as much support as possible in the work of reducing CO2 emissions from shipping, the Danish Shipowners' Association is also working internationally.

After the July meeting at UN’s International Maritime Organisation, IMO, the Danish Shipowners' Association met with the other members of the International Chamber of Shipping, ICS, to continue the discussion on how shipping can reduce the emission of CO2 in the best possible way. It is vital that this solution becomes global, and thus apply to all. This is why work continues at IMO from where shipping is normally regulated.

The Danish Shipowners' Association wishes a speedy consensus to which rules that are to apply to shipping. At the same time, the Association assesses that the best and most efficient solution will be the Danish proposal of a fuel tax and a climate fund for both redressing the climate problems in the developing countries as well as research and development.

In connection with the meeting, ICS launched a campaign to show global shipping’s commitment to reducing the global CO2-emissions. Moreover, there is a consensus in the international shipping industry that it will be possible to reduce CO2-emissions per ton/km by 15-20 pct. through a combination of technical and operational initiatives by 2020.
